Caithness has a huge resource in Science. Back in the early history of science, Alexander Bain. (1880 -1903) born in Watten, invented the 'electric clock' and the precursor of the 'fax machine'. And today of course, we have the site of the first fast breeder nuclear power stationĀ (from the 1950's to 1994) and today is run by Dounreay Site Restoration, and is therefore currently the 'home' of world class Scientists, Engineers and Environmentalists. Caithness may seem small and remote, however, scientifically it ranks among the giants. The Caithness branch of The British Science Association is an organisation of volunteers, a mixture of Scientists and Engineers from all branches and disciplines as well as those just interested in promoting the sciences, and of course Caithness's position in that field |
